He went on an expedition to Ecuador as photographer. The ephemera and notations in the book are as follows - Front pastedown endpaper: A sealed empty envelope with"CANOE TILIKUM"printed on the flap, appears to be contemporary to the voyage of the Tilikum. Also on the front pastedown endpaper is a short"Fifty Years Ago"newspaper clipping from 1953 about the Tilikum being on display in the Octagon [Dunedin, New Zealand] in 1903. [i.e. this is a 1953 reprinting in the newspaper of a short article which was originally printed in the newspaper in 1903]. Front free endpaper: An original photograph tipped in showing Voss and George Chance and two others. The photograph measures 81 x 70mm.
